Haley leads the prowl

Senior Haley Seebold has been prowling the halls of Milton High School for the past year looking for good things happening around the school.

“Prowling the Halls” is a short newscast about the school. Of the 92 newscasts made in a series, Haley said she has been involved in approximately one-third of them. These newscasts are designed to share class activities with the community, she added.

Computer Education Teacher Seth Reitz said Prowling the Halls was created in order to show what was occurring in the school. He said he wanted to know what was going on at his kids’ school and it gave him the idea. “I feel like it gives people an idea of what is going on,” he explained.

Haley said she became familiar with the broadcast when she joined the yearbook staff as a sophomore, and asked Mr. Reitz, who is also the yearbook advisor, if she could lead the program after the former student who did it graduated. Haley said she either creates the script or helps Mr. Reitz write it and records her voice in the video.

“No one else I have is at that stage right now,” said Mr. Reitz of Haley’s experience producing the segments.

During the first semester every school year, the people involved in the newscast make a Prowling the Halls video once a week, Haley said. They might change to a monthly schedule, she added.

“In the past we’ve just kind of picked like some cool stuff that’s going on in classrooms,” said Haley. “Now I’m not sure if it’s going to be the same criteria.”

Haley added they are planning to change the criteria so it interests the community more.

Haley said her favorite memory participating in Prowling the Halls is when she recorded in the back room of Mr. Reitz’ classroom and her sister Senior Hannah Seebold and Junior Tyler Lobos tried to mess her up by talking in the background or distracting her. Although that is her favorite memory, she added she dislikes when she messes up and has to re-record.

In Prowling the Halls, Haley said she would like to cover more topics that matter to the community. Haley added that she believes it benefits the school by spreading a positive message to everybody in the school.

“Prowling the Halls has made me less anxious to speak,” she added. To get involved with the newscast, interested students can talk to Mr. Reitz, Media Relations Manager Mr. Norm Jones or herself, she said.

Haley said she plans to attend a four-year college to study Actuarial Sciences, which is a discipline that assesses financial risk in the field of finance and insurance, and also hopes to play tennis. She added that if there is something similar to Prowling the Halls in college, she plans to join. If possible, she also plans to join the yearbook staff, Haley said.

Along with her role in Prowling the Halls, Haley said she is head of yearbook club. She added she also recommends joining the yearbook staff because it is a lot of fun and a great way to be creative.
