National Art Honor Society (NAHS) held a “Happy Trees Clay Night” fundraiser on Dec. 6 to raise money for a NAHS scholarship.

NAHS uses these funds to give a $500 scholarship to a member of the society who plans to pursue the arts after high school, NAHS Advisor Ms. Lauren Richie said.

According to Ms. Richie, the event, which cost $20 per ticket, was attended by 29 people.

NAHS member, Junior Sarah Aikey said the attendants of the clay night used a pattern to cut shapes out of the trees and used different objects to create a design on their trees. They then used glaze to color their trees, Sarah added.

NAHS members made tickets, flyers, patterns, rolled out clay slabs, cut tree limbs for the bases of the clay trees, advertised and sold the tickets, Ms. Richie added.

Ms. Richie said the members will later fire the trees to solidify them (once dried) and assemble the trees by attaching a dowel rod to the back of the tree and to the wooden tree limb base.
