Project Title: A Study In Value: Ribbon Drawing

Teacher Comment: “I chose Jess for this feature because of her ability to create depth, form, and movement in her drawing. Her ability to see highlights and shadows is beyond her years. In addition she is extremely enthusiastic and willing to go the extra mile. As she progresses through the semester I would encourage her to reach out of her comfort zone and to try new things that she may not be super familiar with.” –Art Teacher Ms. Lauren Richie

Artist Comment: “Considering techniques, I went over some of the darkest pieces of the art first, filling it in with soft graphite and blending it out with my fingers or blender. I use kneaded erasers to make certain spots lighter and a regular eraser to make an area almost gray (like shine). I’ve always loved the way art classes work, having a preconceived idea that I can elaborate on. Being able to do this and realize that it came out beautifully even to me makes me feel incredible.” –Jessica Morgan
