Leaders leave for Disney
Fifteen students from Milton’s National Honor Society, Student Leadership and Skills USA organizations will head to Orlando to participate in the Disney Youth Program. The five-night, six-day trip will begin March 18.
Up to 50 students were invited to attend from the three organizations. Three teachers will accompany the students: French Teacher Ms. Brandee Krall, Drafting Teacher Ms. Rebecca Krall and Foods Teacher Ms. Angela Davis, Ms. B. Krall added.
“I was setting the program up for Skills USA, then after discussing with other teachers and seeing the programs available, we decided to include NHS and Student Leadership,” said Ms. R. Krall.
“The Disney trip is for leadership, team building and careers. It will help for any career choice, like if you want to become an engineer or go into theater,” added Ms. B. Krall. The trip will explore college programs and related careers at the parks. For example, Animal Kingdom has programs focused on exploration in the zoological sciences, she added.
According to Ms. R. Krall, Disney has really good programs for future careers. “I worked at Disney and knew the programs they had, and when I became a teacher I thought it would be great to get Milton involved in the career programs,” she added.
The program started in 1955 for performing arts students, later adding other careers that involve Disney in some way, Ms. R. Krall said.
“There will be leadership programs each day. The programs will take half of the day, then [the students] have the rest of the day to explore the park,” Ms. B. Krall said. She recommends the students bring a big suitcase, as well as open minds and excitement to learn, she added.
According to Ms. B. Krall, the group will take a bus to Washington D.C, then fly to Orlando. The trip cost $1,360 per student, depending on the number of students in a room. The total fee was split into three payments, with the final one due Feb. 21, Ms. B. Krall said.
“We’re already planning for next year so we have everything in order, so more students know about it and go along,” Ms. R. Krall added.
