The Addams Family arrives in Milton

The Addams Family will be staged at Milton High School on April 16-19. All performances have been postponed to a later date. Tickets, which are $10, will be available at the door or online.

According to Musical Director Mr. Stephen Aguirre, The Addams Family is a comedy featuring familiar characters with an original story: Wednesday Addams has fallen in love with a boy her parents have never met.

Mr. Aguirre said he chose this show because it “fit our pool of talent.”

“We have a lot of comedians here at Milton,” he said. He added that he also chose this production because it is funny and easily recognizable.

According to Mr. Aguirre, musical rehearsals have been Mondays through Thursdays until 5 p.m., and consist of students learning their musical parts, blocking and choreography with himself and Choreographer Olivia Rearick, a 2019 Milton graduate.

This year’s leads are seniors Spencer Mabus as Gomez, Aubrey Chappel as Morticia and Rachel Kern as Wednesday, Mr. Aguirre said.

Rachel, who played Judy Bernly in last year’s production of 9 to 5, said “Wednesday Addams is close to the exact opposite of Judy Bernly.” She added that Wednesday is “very aggressive, proud, and blunt.”

Mr. Aguirre said he is most excited for audiences to see the students on stage and see their hard work pay off in their performances. He added that he is also very excited about this year’s poster because it looks “really cool.”

Mr. Aguirre said he feels more comfortable navigating production and advertising this year as it is his second year directing. He added he feels they are making progress at a good pace.

The school’s teachers and administrators have been helpful and cooperative with him as he puts on the musical, according to Mr. Aguirre. He explained that Construction Trades Teacher Mr. Douglas Walter and his students are building this year’s set, and Art Teacher Ms. Lauren Richie and her Theater Design class will be painting the backdrops and making an oak tree for the production.

Mr. Aguirre said he has also been coordinating with several sports coaches to “ensure our mutual students find the time to excel in both activities as well as stay on top of their academics.
