Regi remembers seasons of sports
Senior Regi Wendt is a member of the Milton field hockey and track teams.
Regi said that she feels from the start of seventh grade to her senior year, she has improved more than she ever thought she would.
She said that she used to play volleyball at her old school in Exeter, but when she moved to Milton and there was not a team, she decided to try something new.
“I ended up really enjoying field hockey,” she added. During the fall season she played center mid, which means she was all over the field, offensive and defensively.
She also said that she runs track. During track Regi said she sprints, which means she does a little bit of everything. “I just show up, I run at practice and work in the off season,” she explained.
According to Regi, one of the ways she improved was pushing herself past her limits and never giving up. She achieved that by always having a positive mindset and always trying her hardest, she added.
Regi said that over the years the teamwork has changed a lot. “The teamwork was different from last year because of getting a new coach and having new drills to practice,” she explained.
Head Field Hockey Coach Maggie Gola stepped into the role of coach this year. “The team this year worked so well as a team and family. They pushed each other and challenged each other every practice,” said Coach Gola. “Regi really stepped up this year.”
“She motivated and pushed her teammates every day. She really took up a leading role as a senior and whoever replaces her next year has big shoes to fill,” she added.
“I cannot be more proud of how well the team did this year,” Coach Gola added.
Regi said that one thing she is going to miss is how the sport shaped her as a person. She also added that she is happy to move on and go to college for dental hygiene.
Regi has some advice for future athletes. “Your mindset is what matters most, and it is what will get you through so much, physically and mentally,” she said.
Regi added that nothing really went badly for her this season, although the season did start late due to Covid restrictions.
Regi said that the team played the best they could each game and always tried to improve.
“I would not be who I am today without sports,” she said, adding that her best sports memory was sports being allowed to continue this season.
