Is what to do a mystery? Solve it with the fall play

This year’s fall play is a murder mystery comedy called Musical Comedy Murders 1940 written by John Bishop.

According to Director Mr. Stephen Aguirre, who is also High School ESL Aide/Spanish translator and the Drama Club advisor, the play is centered around a serial killer that murders chorus girls that are a part of the production team.

The play takes place in 1940 in a mansion in upstate New York, said Mr. Aguirre. It is centered on a millionaire named Elsa Von Grossenknueten, played by Senior Leslie Krebs, who is trying to solve the murder alongside the director, lyricist, composer, producer and the actors as they get involved in a comedic plot to try and uncover the true killer.

“Several characters have specific accents they have to use,” said Mr. Aguirre. For example, Senior Micah Fritz is using an Irish accent for his role as Patrick O’Reilly, as well as Junior Jessica Morgan, who is portraying German maid Helsa Wenzel, he explained.

Mr. Aguirre said he chose this play because he felt it would be fun for the cast to produce. “When we have our finished product, it’s a really fun, goofy play with lots of twists and turns,” he added.

In addition to Leslie, Micah and Jessica, the cast includes Senior Tridaija Alvarez as Nikki Crandall, Senior Isaiah Franciscus as Ken De La Maize, Senior Jaydon Cottage as Eddie McCuen, Senior Olivia Weaver as Marjorie Baverstock, Senior Nina Yakicic as the Masked Killer, Junior David Johnson as Roger Hopewell, Junior Chloe Russell as Bernice Roth and Sophomore Ely Reitz as Sgt. Michael Kelly.

Leslie, who has been doing high school productions since 2015, said that this year’s play is their most ambitious and difficult, but also most exciting.

“I personally think that the audience is going to enjoy all the twists and turns that the performance takes,” added Leslie.

Due to COVID-19, the audience will be required to wear masks, according to Mr. Aguirre. He added that the cast will also perform with masks if the current state mandate is still in place.

“The masks that the students will be wearing are clear plastic face guards that will go up to their nose, as it is difficult to perform and use your face to act if you were wearing a mask,” said Mr. Aguirre.

The show is November 5-6 at 7 p.m. in the Milton Area High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 and will be sold on the website showtix4u.com, which will be up sometime in late October, added Mr. Aguirre.
