Stork's success is based on practice

Senior Kiersten Stork is a member of Milton’s Softball and Girls Basketball teams.

In softball, Kiersten said that she plays center field. She plays shooting guard in basketball, she added.

Kiersten said that she started playing basketball at the age of eight and softball at the age of five because her dad had encouraged her to.

According to Kiersten, her dad is her biggest influence because she always looked up to him, and he always pushed her to do better.

Kiersten said that the best game she has had so far was her basketball game, last year, against Danville. Milton was down by a lot, and they made a comeback in overtime, causing them to win the game, she added.

The toughest thing she has to overcome while playing sports is keeping a positive attitude so that she doesn’t overthink and get into her head, according to Kiersten.

She said that she has received varsity letters for both sports every year of high school. She added that she has also received Defensive Player of the Year in softball last year from Softball Coach Ms. Maggie Gola and last year in basketball from Girls Basketball Coach Mr. Philip Davis.

The basketball team made it to Districts every year that she has played, said Kiersten.

Coach Davis said that Kiersten has dramatically improved from her freshmen year.

According to Coach Davis, Kiersten is one of the only four seniors on the team, so this requires her to take on the role of a leader.

“I think our best memories are yet to come, and I am looking forward to a rewarding and successful season,” said Coach Davis.

Before every game, Kiersten said that she talks to her teammates so that she can come into the game ready to play.

Kiersten said that she is still deciding what college she wants to go to, but she wants to continue playing basketball. She wants to major in nursing, she added.

Playing sports and being with her friends takes her mind off of everything, according to Kiersten. Sports bring a lot of happiness to her life, she added.

Kiersten has some advice for future athletes: “Play every game like it’s your last.”
