Potty Problems: Boys bathrooms flush with vandalism

Vandalism in the high school boys restrooms has twice caused administration to close all the facilities except for one.

Only the bathroom by the cafeteria remained open. Co-Principal Mr. Andrew Rantz added that they were able to address the bathroom issues.

The first time the Boys Bathrooms were closed in September was because of students spraying red Kool-Aid in five bathrooms in a day and a half.

According to Mr. Rantz, he and Co-Principal Mr. Michael Bergey determine how long the bathrooms are closed.

Mr. Rantz said that he has custodians that check the restroom frequently so he is able to narrow the time down and use the cameras to see who entered the area at that time.

“We have one custodian that works this entire building…He can’t clean this entire building. He’s one person,” added Mr. Rantz.

According to Mr. Rantz, there was not any vandalism in the restrooms that remained opened. He added many students began to complain and request that the other bathrooms to open again.

“I respect their concerns, which is why we are opening it back up,” said Mr. Rantz.

People have been ripping material off the wall and spraying Kool-Aid everywhere to make it look like blood, added Mr. Rantz.

Mr. Rantz said that if someone witnesses bathroom vandalism, “either A report it or B tell them to stop,” he said.

Mr. Rantz added that he understands teenagers are going to do these actions because the students are still kids and figuring themselves out, but it still does not make these things okay.

The way that he usually finds out who vandalizes the bathroom is from a student who goes to him and tells him, said Mr. Rantz.

As of Dec.3, the boys bathrooms were back open at the high school.
