Academic achievement is a matter of family pride for Roup

Senior Luke Roup has achieved the highest Grade Point Average in his class throughout his high school career.

According to Luke, it’s been his goal to get high grades, and he works hard for it. He studies every day after school, he said. He can study from one hour and a half to five hours to get ready for a test, he added.

The reason why he said he tries hard is that both of his older sisters finished in the top five in their classes and went to college, he said. One sister is studying to be a pharmacist, and the other is going to be a nurse, he added. As a result, he said he doesn’t want to be left behind. Moreover, he said he works hard to prepare himself for the future.

Luke said he wants to attend the University of Pittsburgh to be a chemical engineer. He added that he also wants to obtain a masters degree to design medicines and drugs.

In his high school, his favorite classes have been Calculus and chemistry classes, he said. The most challenging part of school is English class, Luke added.

Luke said he is happy and pretty surprised about being first in his class, and it is a source of pride for him and his family.

Luke said that getting high grades is proof of good work. When he has a disappointing grade, he added that he tries to make up for the grade, study more next time and look over different material.

Outside of school, Luke said he like to lift, go camping and wrestle. He said he also works at Weis Markets.

“Luke is a fun student to be around and seems to like to have a good time while also helping out for the greater good,” said Ms. Angela Davis, Advisor of National Honor Society. She added she is grateful to have him in the club.

According to Luke, the high school is level appropriate, not too difficult, not too easy. Every student can take different courses depending on what they are good at, he explained.

Luke said that if he was ever famous, it would probably be for making the treatment for cancer.

The best advice that Luke said he could give to other students is study, pay attention and ask anyone for help.
