Dillan’s sports career has its own rhythm

Senior Dillan Guinn-Bailey is a member of the Boys Basketball team.

He’s been playing basketball for 13 years and was also a member of the Milton Baseball team until last year.

He said that sports have taken up half of his life, while working at Weis Markets and school work take up the other half.

Dillan has earned four varsity letters in his high school athletic career.

“The challenges I’ve needed to overcome have been mostly mental,” Dillan said. “Throughout my sophomore year I had extremely low self-confidence, but I’ve almost entirely moved past that now.”

“Even though I’ve played and enjoy many sports, I don’t watch them much, if at all. So, I can’t say I have an athlete I really looked up to,” he said.

Although Dillan plays sports, he has another passion. He loves music. Specifically, composing music on the piano.

“I’d say an interest I have that I could make a career out of, or do on the side, is music. I really enjoy playing instruments and writing my own songs, especially composing things on piano,” he added.

He participates in theatre alongside sports and has a role in this year’s upcoming musical Mamma Mia.

Dillan has some advice for future athletes: “If I were to give any advice, I’d say to just stick with it. If you truly want to play a sport for a career, then never give up on it and keep getting better with each day.”

He said he has no plans to make a career out of sports but he wants to make a career out of music instead.

Sophomore Nijel Hunter is Dillan’s teammate on the Boys Basketball team.

He said that Dillan plays point guard well and is always a good sport and team player. He added that Dillan is a great addition to the basketball team and has a bright future ahead of him.

Dillan plans to go to Bucknell University for mathematics. Although he has played sports for years, he said, “sports haven’t really helped me with college since I’m not playing for Bucknell.”
