Blood drive returns to Milton
An American Red Cross blood drive held in the high school on March 29 was a success, with a total of 26 donors.
Skills USA Advisor Ms. Amanda Smith-Derck, who is also the Early Childhood Instructor, said that there were quite a few first-time donors. Skills USA was involved to positively impact the community by providing the space and donors from the school, Ms. Smith-Derck added.
According to Ms. Smith-Derck the American Red Cross suppled everything that Skills USA did not. Dunkin Donuts donated for the morning donors and Pizza Town and Dominos donated for the afternoon donors she said.
“They have been doing blood drives here at the high school before I came on board 8 years ago. So at least the past 10 years I believe,’ said Ms. Smith-Derck.
According to Ms. Smith-Derck, there were no problems with the blood drive, adding that donors were masked. Free COVID antibody testing was also offered to donors.
“We did have donations from local businesses to support the blood drive: Dunkin in Lewisburg, Linda’s Cookies in Milton, Pizza Town in Milton and Dominos in Milton,” said Ms. Smith-Derck. Another blood drive will be held in the fall, she added.
