Game on for Powder Puff
Among the senior activities is the return of the all-girls flag football game known as the Powder Puff Game. The May 22 event is being organized by Student Government Co-Advisor Ms. Katherine Bower with the help of some of the members of the high school football team.
Girls paid $17 to register and received T-shirts, which also serve as jerseys.
The high school football team members helping Ms. Bower are acting as coaches to the senior girls that are participating in the Powder Puff Game. Practices and meetings began on May 1 for the 31 participating females and 10 male cheerleaders.
The Powder Puff Game is not a traditional flag football game. Instead of four 15-minute quarters, the event consists of two halves with twenty-minute timers each with only one timeout per team, per half according to the rules. The rest of the rules are traditional flag football rules.
Any unnecessary violence will be followed up with disciplinary action, and any swearing or harassment of other players or officials will result in a 15-yard penalty, said Ms. Bower.
There are two teams, the varsity team and the junior varsity team. The varsity team is made up of 16 total senior and junior girls, while the junior varsity team is made up of 15 sophomore and freshman girls.
The event will take place on May 22 at 2 p.m. at the high school’s practice field with the junior varsity team starting and the varsity team afterwards. The game will be played against Warrior Run’s Powder Puff team. Tickets are available to the public and cost $2 for students and faculty and $5 for all others.
All funds will go to the student government in both Milton and Warrior Run to keep this tradition going every year. Every year the teams will switch fields to give both teams a chance to have home field advantage.
