Milton Area High School Administration made the decision to switch Pride Time from right before fourth block to the end of the day. Pride Time is a free period from 2:20 to 3 p.m. in which students can work on school work, attend club meetings or get help from a teacher.
Co-principal Mr. Andrew Rantz said teachers have been “fond” of the move. Students are less likely to miss fourth block now, he added. Mr. Rantz said this is especially beneficial when students have early dismissals due to sports.
He said that now students are less drained in their classes, adding that prior to the decision, students were exhausted after a long day, which made them participate less in class. Because of the change, students can be more attentive in fourth block and take a rest during Pride, added Mr. Rantz.
According to Mr. Rantz, moving Pride Time had been in discussion for quite some time, dating back to when he first arrived at Milton Area High School roughly eight years ago.
Mr. Rantz added he does not know whether Pride will continue to be at the end of the day with the new period schedule. According to Mr. Rantz, students could have “study hall” periods possibly two times a week instead of Pride every day.
According to Art Teacher Ms. Casie Baker, Pride Time is better at the end of the day because students were “checked out” by the time they got to their fourth block class.
It is more beneficial for her as the club advisor of National Art Honor Society and Student Council. More students attend meetings and students ask for passes to come down and work on projects, Ms. Baker added.
According to Sophomore Ella Heeter, she prefers Pride at the end of the day. It’s easier to go straight to Pride after fourth block instead of going to another class, she added.
