Milton Area School District will be operating on a half-day schedule on Monday for April 8, due to the upcoming solar eclipse.
According to a letter from Superintendent Dr. John Bickhart, the early dismissal will give students the chance to view the eclipse from home under parent supervision. He added that the elementary schools will be released at noon, followed by the middle and high school dismissal at 12:30 p.m.
Dr. Bickhart added that daily schedules will stay the same as the previous early dismissals.
“The timing of our dismissal falls within the range of time the solar eclipse will be happening and we want to ensure students will not be on busses during this time,” according to Dr. Bickhart’s letter.
The Milton Middle School PTSA purchased eclipse viewing glasses for its students and faculty, according to an email from Middle School Science Teacher Ms. Melissa Bhattacharya.
“Students will receive their solar eclipse glasses from their science teacher,” according to Ms. Bhattacharya’s email. She added that a pair of glasses will be delivered to everyone’s mailbox, and extras will be available outside of Principal Mr. Greg Scoggins’ office for as long as they last.
