Milton Area School District recently replaced their middle and high school kilns.
“The kiln fires pottery,” explained Art Teacher Ms. Lauren Richie. She added anything made from clay “has to be fired to become permanent.”
The kiln is used daily, said Ms. Richie, adding that it takes two days to fully fire clay.
“We fire it [the kiln] every other day, but it’s usually in use almost every day,” said Ms. Richie.
The new kilns at the middle and high school were delivered on March 28, Ms. Richie added.
This upgrade was due to how outdated the previous kilns were, Ms. Richie said. She added that the previous ones had been purchased in 2004 and were outdated to the point that if the software had broken, it would have been unreplaceable.
