It’s the time of year to decide what classes to pick for next year.
Scheduling will be through Sapphire, Guidance Counselor Ms. Leslie Robinson said. Scheduling started Dec. 16 and will be open until Jan. 7.
There are many classes to choose from, including a variety of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
To graduate, Milton High School students are required to have 22 total credits: four English credits, four math credits, three social studies credits, two physical education, 1.5 health credits and 4.5 elective credits.
“Freshman should consider what they want to do when they graduate and consider classes that would help them achieve that goal,” Ms. Robinson said. Speaking to teachers and parents is always helpful when considering classes, she added.
According to 2024-2025 Milton Course-Book, there are eight CTE programs students are able to take, but only five are available for sophomores. There are 12 honors classes offered. While students can select their electives, teachers may recommend core classes. In the class meetings on Dec. 10., Mr. Bergey explained that students do not have the ability to switch core classes that teachers recommend.
Milton also offers 11 PC (Penn College) Now courses, but not all are available to sophomores.
“CTE programs are great, and they help you know what you want to do and gives you good learning skills,” said Ms. Amanda Gessner, school social worker. “These learning skills help you get hired right out of high school.”
Senior Pierce Hoffer offered insight into his favorite classes. “My two all-time favorite classes were Ancient Civilizations and mythology with Mr. Schultz and Spanish 3 with Senora Hunter,” he said. His favorite sophomore classes were PC Now Chemistry with Mr. (Jonathan) Bixler and Spanish 2 with Senora (Angela) Hunter, he added.
The CTE program is run by Director of Secondary Education, Mr. Andrew Rantz, and CTE Teacher Ms. Amanda Smith is the coordinator, said Ms. Robinson.
Scheduling will be available during Christmas break, Ms. Robinson explained.
