Senior Rex Farr, who twice qualified for cross-country state championships, is headed off to college to prepare to become a math teacher and to continue his running career.
Rex has been training for cross country for five years, running tens of miles every week. “I made it to the championships after multiple times feeling like I couldn’t make it,” he added.
Rex said he enjoys running and always has; that’s why he told his parents he wanted to do cross country because he wanted a challenge. When he first joined cross country, Rex said he enjoyed the running and the workouts he was given for the sport.
Rex added he likes running in his free time and biking. He also added that he likes working with his teammates, but sometimes he doesn’t. Most of the time he said he likes running alone, adding that he likes to listen to music on his runs.
When he trained for the state championships, Rex said he trained by running 70 miles a week for his junior year. When he trained for his senior year, he said he did 20 miles of running and 60 miles a week biking around Milton.
After he graduates Rex said he will attend Bloomsburg University and plans to continue his running career there.
“Rex’s personal record for Milton Track was on Oct. 12. Rex ran 16:06 for the 5k (3.1 miles) at the PHAC championships to take third place,” said Track and Field Coach Jonathan Dick.
Rex said that he plans on running until he can’t anymore. He added that running throughout the years has taught him discipline and the highs and lows of running.
“Rex has grown into one of the best runners that Milton High School has ever had. His dedication and commitment is unparalleled and one of the places where he has grown a lot is his reaction to setbacks,” said Coach Dick.
