Nutrition, Food, and Wellness Teacher Ms. Krystin Thomas has officially joined the Milton High School faculty. She teaches Nutrition, Food and Wellness and Baking/Pastry this year.
Ms. Thomas graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education and a minor in child development.
Before she started teaching, Ms. Thomas said she worked as a daycare worker, a screener during Covid-19, a transporter at a skilled nursing facility, a hostess/busser and a babysitter.
“I finally got into teaching at a weird time almost two years ago,” she said.”
“I always knew I wanted to teach, but I originally wanted to teach life skills. I want kids to learn how to pass life, not tests.”
“So far, I love it here. There are good days, and there are bad days. Overall, it’s one of my most rewarding experiences,” Ms. Thomas said.
She added that the most difficult thing are students who goof off and are disrespectful or doing something other than the work assigned to them.
Freshman Joelle Hoover has Ms. Thomas’s Nutrition, Food, and Wellness class. “The best part of taking one of her classes is when we bake or cook and get to eat the food after,” she said.
Ms. Thomas said some of the funniest things she did in class so far have been a Hash Brown competition and interacting with students while baking.
“My favorite activity that we have done this year has definitely been baking Christmas cookies for two weeks,” said Joelle.
Ms. Thomas said other than cooking and baking, her hobbies include walking and enjoying nature.
Ms. Thomas said her favorite dish to make or eat is a filet mignon with sauteed onions with a loaded potato and seasoned vegetables.
“My favorite memory about being a teacher is kids opening up about their life and not only being appreciative of me, but the class,” she added.
Joelle said her favorite memory from Ms. Thomas’s class is the Hash Brown competition.
