Milton High School’s gym has recently undergone a transformation. Renovations started on June 9 and finished the third week of July,
According to Assistant Principal Mr. William Campbell, these restorations included new flooring and repainting the walls. Everything is new and improved, except for the bleachers and scoreboard, He said.
The 25 year-old lights were also replaced with more cost and energy efficient ones, added Mr. Campbell.
Mr. Campbell said repairs took place during the summer to avoid the disruption of classes. However, summer basketball was temporarily moved to the middle school gym for practice, he added.
Students and staff are most excited about the gym’s brighter look, explained Mr. Campbell, adding that there had been complaints that it was too dark.
The improvements will “boost morale and make the facility look better overall,” Mr. Campbell said. “Superintendent Dr. John Bickhart wants to continue to uplift the school through renovations.”
According to District Business Administrator Mr. Derrek Fink, an estimate of $168,407 was spent on these renovations — lighting: $79,500, flooring: $49,995, painting: $33,99 and the clean-up and final touches: $4,921.
