Surveyed Seniors Cite Concerns

Members of the class of 2021 were surveyed about their greatest concerns about their final year of high school. Of the class of 157 seniors, 33 responded to the emailed Panther Press survey.

The survey asked students to pick which they worried about the most– not having prom, a normal graduation, or senior night (for sports). Seniors could also answer with another option, describing a concern that was not included on the list.

Eleven seniors stated that they are worried about not having a traditional graduation ceremony.

“I wanted to graduate like the other classes: On stage and next to my friends,” Senior Joshua Allison said.

Co-Principal Mr. Andrew Rantz responded to the concerns about graduation. “It is far too early to make any type of guess on what May will look like in regards to how graduation will be held,” he said. He added that he would like students to maintain a positive mindset.

Seven seniors reported that they are concerned about taking their SATs and making sure they have them done for college.

“I haven’t been able to take the SATs yet, and that stresses me out because it changes how I fill out college applications,” said Senior Ryleigh Mabus.

“Some colleges still require SATs, but SATs keep getting canceled,” Senior Riley Lewis added.

“A lot of colleges are waiving the SATs and have a non-test option” Guidance Counselor Ms. Leslie Robinson said. She added that students should keep looking at the SAT website for the most current information on test center availability.

Seniors also are troubled with the chance of winter and spring sports getting canceled.

“One of the things that affects me the most, is if I miss the spring season of sports and track, I could potentially lose out on a lot of memories and progress that I’ve made in my sport,” said Senior Tyler Lobos.

District Athletic Director Mr. Rod Harris said he does not have any information from PIAA about winter and spring sports yet.
