Mo throws her way to a D-1 future

Senior Morgan “Mo” Reiner is a member of the Milton Girls Soccer and the Track and Field teams.

According to Mo, her parents signed her up for soccer when she was around seven-years-old, and she fell in love with the sport.

When Mo was nine, she said she joined a club soccer team out of Danville called The Lady Strikers, and from there, soccer became a more prominent part of her life.

“I was on the team for around four years, and over the course of those years, we had many successes and tournament championships,” Mo said.

She has done track since her sophomore year, she added. Mo had also been a member of the Girls Basketball team, but said she is taking a break from the sport due to a tear in her shoulder.

“I didn’t want to play basketball and risk more injury to it, so I would be able to throw javelin in the spring for my senior year,” Mo said.

“Injury is the biggest challenge for me in sports because it puts a bump in the road to where you want to be,” Mo said.

Mo said her favorite thing about sports is the people she gets to play with. Her favorite thing about soccer is playing the game. She added that track is her favorite place to socialize, have fun with her friends and meet new people.

Girls Soccer Coach Mr. Rod Harris said that over the past several years, Mo has improved greatly.

“In soccer she went from playing the field to being put in at goal,” he said.

“I plan on getting both sport and academic scholarships,” Mo said. As of now Mo said she is undecided about a major, but she plans to continue to throw javelin in college.

Mo said that she hopes to attend a Division 1 college for javelin. So far, she’s been accepted into University of Delaware, Kent State, University of North Colorado, Samford University in Alabama and West Chester University.

“One of my favorite memories is going to the cabin for soccer,” Mo said. “There’s no cell service up there, so spending the day with friends at the lake is something I look forward to.”

Another great memory she has was going to States for javelin. “I didn’t know what to expect; it was a really fun weekend,” Mo said. While at States, she was able to compete, watch her teammates compete and hang out with friends and teammates.

Mo attended Track and Field Nationals in June of 2021, in Oregon. The competition took place at Hayward Field, which she said is one of the greatest places to throw because “it’s the best track and field stadium in the United States.”

“It was an honor to be there, let alone compete and win,” she added.

The meet was six days, and she competed on her first day. “It was the greatest feeling to not only win, but PR by almost ten feet,” Mo said.

According to Coach Harris, Mo is a great teammate who is very supportive and very encouraging. “She doesn’t yell at her teammates, she’s always positive,” Coach Harris added.

Mo’s favorite thing Coach Rod Harris said to her was, “Yeah big dawg.” She added that Coach Harris says this when he’s excited with one of her plays.

While applying to college, Mo said she uses a recruitment site to get in contact with coaches and get their phone numbers for over the phone interviews. During this process, she said she also checks the schools’ majors and facilities. If she is interested in the school, then she will do a visit.
