Will new classes be coming to Milton High School? Will the addition of new classes end current ones?

Co-Principal Andrew Rantz said that there may be more classes arriving in the next few years.

Mr. Rantz said that he doesn’t see any major drawbacks to the addition of classes. “I wish we could offer more,” he added.

According to Guidance Counselor Ms. Leslie Robinson, Chemistry 2 appears to be the only new class on the high school schedule next year.

Mr. Rantz said that current teachers can teach new classes if they are certified in that subject. For example, Chemistry Teacher Mr. Jonathan Bixler can teach Honors Chemistry 2.

Mr. Rantz said that some current classes may have to be removed because of limits in the schedule. For example, Social Studies Teacher Mr. Ronald Schultz wanted to offer Ancient Civilization, so he had to remove Modern World from the schedule to make time for the new class, Mr. Rantz added.

Mr. Schultz said that he originally planned to remove Modern World for Ancient Civilization. As of now, he is scheduled to teach both classes next year.

The school will measure the success of these new classes by enrollment requests. Mr. Rantz added if only three to four students select a course, then it will not run. He explained that student feedback is also important because it lets him know if the students like the class.

A period schedule would definitely allow for more flexibility with scheduling and electives,” Mr. Rantz said. He added that this will not happen until the 2024-25 school year at the earliest.
