Many teachers and students are adjusting to new technology updates throughout the Milton schools. A new web filter was installed last spring, allowing teachers to see and manage student’s laptop screens. New projectors have also been replacing the old ones around the school.
The school is using a new web filter, Line Wise. However, within Line Wise teachers use a feature called Class Wise.
“It allows them to monitor students’ laptops, to be able to monitor what students are doing, be able to restrict students from going to certain pages and can open up certain web pages,” said High School Principal Mr. Michael Bergey.
English Teacher Ms. Angela Ranck said she only really uses Class Wise to make sure her students got to the right spot. She mainly uses the “Focus” setting, which makes sure students can’t leave or open a certain page during a test, she added.
Along with the new web filter, the new projectors have been installed in a handful of rooms over the summer and in the past month.
“The old projectors were very old and were barely visible anymore,” added Mr. Bergey, “and about 20 projectors were installed last year.”
According to Mr. Bergey, he hasn’t received any outside feedback (positive or negative) from teachers, parents or students about any of these changes. These changes have also been made in the middle school as well as all across the district.
“Ultimately at the end of the day the hope is to create a better learning environment for our students, everything from personnel to tech to grounds and maintenance. Everything is here to make sure you guys get the best educational experience that you can have.” added Mr. Bergey.
