This year the Powderpuff game will be on Sunday, May 19, at Milton’s Alumni Stadium.
The Varsity team, consisting of juniors and seniors, will play at 1 p.m. with Junior Varsity to follow.
Powderpuff Football is a tradition in which Warrior Run and Milton high school girls will compete in a game of flag football, while being cheered on by a cheer team of boys.
“(Milton) started this three years ago when we did not have our stadium finished,” said Science Teacher Ms. Kathleen Bower, who has organized it in the past.
Art Teacher Ms. Lauren Richie said that before the game, the football players help train and coach the girls participating in the game. She added that the cheerleaders train and coach the boys who are cheering for the girls.
Anyone who wants to sign up can see Art Teacher Ms. Casie Baker or Ms. Richie.
There will be concessions held at the field, and the host of the game earns funds for their student council, said Ms. Richie. The schools alternate hosting the game.
The first year it was held against Warrior Run in 2022, Milton won both JV and Varsity, with the Warrior Run cheerleaders winning, said Ms. Bower. Last year, it was held at Warrior Run, Milton won the trophy for the football game, and Warrior Run won the cheer trophy, she added.
According to Business Teacher Ms. Jamie Emery-Seibert, Powderpuff started in the early 1980s. It took place in the stadium in the fall after the last football game, she said and added that it was played the same way, but it was Juniors competing against Seniors.
