Senior Chase Lytle has played sports all his life, but this year there has been a slight change.
He said he had been involved in sports starting when he was seven or eight. In elementary school he said he played basketball, football and wrestling.
“White Deer created great athletes growing up. (The coaches) show you good ways to do things,” Chase said.
According to Chase, he recently chose to leave his starting quarterback position during a varsity football game against Montoursville for golf.
“I have enjoyed every sport I have ever played all the way up until now,” he said.
Chase explained that football was going great for him until there was some difficulties with the coaches. “I love football, but having a new coaching staff for four years straight is not easy for anyone on the team, especially me,” he added.
Learning new things and trying to provide for the team to help win wasn’t working out for him nor the coaching staff, he explained.
Chase said that the team atmosphere was great, but he felt that they were not driven towards winning.
“We enjoyed playing the game, but there was a lack of desire to show out for the community in the school,” he added.
Chase added he never quit a sport in his entire life, but family and close friends understood and gave their full support for his decision to leave the football team.
“I probably wouldn’t step on a football field again for the rest of my career, but if opportunities show, then yeah,” Chase said.
Chase now is enjoying golf, he said, adding that the coaches and his teammates treat him great.
“The team dynamic didn’t really change when Chase joined. He asked to join halfway through the season, and I’ll never turn away someone who wants to be involved in golf,” Golf Coach Mr. Nathan Richie said.
“They let me come in halfway through the season and still provided for me and let me come out and play for them,” Chase said.
Mr. Richie explained that when Chase signed up, he already had a full team but gave him the option to join the JV team.
Chase said he plans to go to Bloomsburg University for wrestling and get a degree in nursing.
