Senior Carrie King has played sports since she started school. This includes softball, basketball, soccer, and recently, she has also joined Tennis and Track and Field teams.
“The reason why I play the sports I’ve played is because I have been playing them for so long, and my dad got me into them at a young age, so it’s stuck with me,” said Carrie.
She said she also scored 1,000 points during the girls’ Milton Varsity basketball game at Milton in February.
She was the team captain and all tournament player which showed recognition to her exceptional performance and skill during the tournament.
Carrie was awarded Defensive Player of the Year for Basketball by her coach at the end of the year banquet.
“The atmosphere with the team is one of the healthiest atmospheres I have been on in a Basketball team. We all get along super well, which helps with the teamwork aspect of the game,” she said.
Carrie scored the most three points in a game at Northumberland Christian School prior switching to Milton.
She was also named an Offensive Player of the Year for Softball.
In tennis she also served as the captain, and won the sportsmanship award, MVP award.
Carrie said she continues to improve her basketball skills, in ball handling specifically.
“My dad has always said that if you can dribble and get yourself open you can do anything so I could really work on that,” she explained.
She also said she has worked on hitting in softball and serves and strokes in tennis. “But most importantly I think if I lifted more, it would really help me in sports and make me a better athlete,” she added.
Junior Sienna Short played basketball with Carrie and described her as “one of the most dedicated athletes I know.”
“When Carrie injured her knee in our final in-season game… she was devastated that she couldn’t play in our District game….” Sienna said. “But instead of beand angry and upset, she she showed up for her team off the support and gave all the support she could.”
Sienna added that Carrie leads “with both her voice and her actions.”
For college Carrie said she is deciding between Commonwealth University in Bloomsburg or Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
Carrie said she plans to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
“Hopefully down the road I will work my way up to nurse anesthetist after more schooling and clinicals,” she added.
Carrie said she does not plan to play any sports other than some intramurals.
“I do plan on playing these sports in the future just with like friends and just when I want to go out and have fun when there’s nothing to do,” she said.
Carrie said that if she really misses the sport, she may try and play once she gets to her desired college.
“Sports have helped me develop time management, especially with school,” Carrie said, and that she has also developed teamwork skills and how to get along with others.
Carrie’s supporters are her parents, extended family, coaches, and friends, she said.
“They have always been with me and encourage me to keep up with sports.” Carrie said.
Carrie’s biggest influence on her was her dad and brother. Her dad played a bunch of sports including baseball in college growing up, and she said that she always thought it was cool.
“He influenced me to try my best and get better so I could be a player good like him,” Carrie said.
