Senior Wyett Heintzelman is known for his athleticism, which includes achievements in cross country, bowling and track and field.
Wyett said that he considers cross country his main sport because he has been dedicated to it the longest and enjoys it the most.
According to Wyett, Mr. Matt Ishman, the previous middle school Cross Country Coach, tried to recruit him for track and field in eighth grade, hoping that Wyett would join the high school team the following spring. To get a head start, Wyett decided to join the cross-country team in middle school. He said he liked cross country, which led him to join the track and field team for his freshmen year, he added.
Wyett said that Cross Country Coach Nicholas Doresky talked to him about joining the bowling team, and that is why he has done it all four years of high school.
Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Jonathan Dick said Wyett is a great athlete and he loved watching him grow over his four years of cross country. “He really got into it…… took further time off and became a guy that going into his senior year we were even counting on to factor into our team score,” he added.
According to Coach Dick, his favorite memory of Wyett was when he broke six minutes in the mile against Mount Carmel at a home meet for Track. “To do what he did takes a lot of courage, and I love thinking about him going for it,” he added.
Wyett said that he will not be participating in any sports in college, and will be staying focused on his career. He plans to attend Penn State or Penn Tech to major in engineering, he added.
“I think sports have helped me a lot as a person. They have helped me become a more social and confident person throughout high school,” he said, adding that sports and school is very overwhelming.
“It’s very hectic, I don’t get much home time. I get home, eat quickly, do homework, then go to bed,” he explained. Wyett said that his greatest challenge has been managing his time.
According to Wyett, his favorite memory was when he got a 200 in bowling in his junior year at Milton’s home bowling alley. He said he enjoyed celebrating with teammates and getting a high point bowl.
“I’m going to miss the teams and hanging out with my sports friends,” Wyett said.
