Senior Montgomery Fisher is known for his athletic achievements on Milton’s Football, Wrestling and Baseball teams.
According to Monty, he has played football for 14 years, and he considers it his main sport. He started football when he was four as a Panther Cub because his friends were doing it and it looked fun, he added.
“Football is enjoyable, and I find it more fun,” he said.
In football, Monty said he was awarded a Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference (PHAC) Division 2 Honorable Mention for Player of the Year, PHAC Division 2 First Team Running Back, and PHAC Division 2 Second Team Punter for his outstanding performances.
According to Monty, his favorite sports memory was in his sophomore season when Milton beat Mount Carmel in the Tomato Bowl.
The hardest challenge Monty has had to face was being injured during competition seasons, he said. “Having to deal with injury, staying fit and dealing with getting cleared to play is a stressful struggle a lot of athletes can understand,” he added.
According to Head Coach Matthew Wilson, “the injury that sticks out most to me is his ankle injury. Monty’s main attribute is his feet! He can run fast, change direction at the stop of a dime. So, when he suffered his ankle injury he had to become more of a patient runner.”
“My coaches, Coach Hype (Ryan Schuck), Coach Matthew Wilson, Coach Devin O’Rourke, and Coach Jake Barret helped me become a better player and kept pushing me to become better,” he said. “My coaches stayed with me in the weight room and always had me push through the hard lifts even when I wanted to quit.”
Monty is very explosive, and he does everything with the greatest amount of intensity, Coach Wilson said. He added that Monty is not much of talker, but his actions and work ethic speak volumes.
Monty said his post-high school plans are to attend college at Lock Haven University and study sports management in hopes of using his degree in a football setting.
“I’m going to miss the teammates I played with, and I’m also going to miss my coaches,” he added.
