Senior Trenton Zechman is involved on the stage and in sports including theater, concert band, marching band, choir, bowling and track and field.
Trenton began his theater career as a sophomore. He has performed in White Christmas, Makin’ It, The Outsiders, SpongeBob the Musical and You Can’t Take It With You. He added that he got involved theater after Theater Director Mr. Stephan Aguire needed help moving a table and said that he looked like an actor and asked if he was going to audition.
“Trenton is every thing you’d want in an actor. He is dependable, friendly, hardworking, a real ‘director’s actor,’ meaning he takes direction well, asks good questions, and takes everything he does with the utmost seriousness, while also knowing how to have fun,” Mr. Aguire said. “On stage, he is not afraid to laugh boisterously, cry deeply, do a wild Russian accent or be anything I need him to be.”
Trenton said his favorite roles were Dallas in The Outsiders and Boris Kolenkhov in You Can’t Take It With You.
“’Cause with Dallas, you know, I was in depth. I was a part of the main cast. I got Pony Boy and Johnny out of the situation,” Trenton said. “But with Kolenkhov, I get to have fun. I get to express myself and do a funny accent. It’s just a lot of fun.”
One of Trenton’s dream musicals is Shrek The Musical. “I want to be Lord Farquaad,” he added. “If there’s a musical or play, I will always want to be the villain.”
Trenton’s favorite memory is performing SpongeBob The Musical for the elementary students. “Going out there and seeing their faces light up as we dance around singing as SpongeBob and the crew,” Trenton said. “I saw a couple of my kids there from my work and from Baugher Elementary School. They were crying for their ‘Mr. Trenton’ saying, ‘that’s him, that’s him, I see him, I see him.’”
Trenton said that his passion for the band started in sixth grade when he took music appreciation with Band Director Mr. Ryan Hewitt. He did not continue with the band until last year when he joined the marching band. He plays the sousaphone in marching band and plays the tuba in concert band.
Trenton said he picked the tuba because it looked like a big, funny instrument. “It grew on me. It really did,” he said.
“Trenton learns fast, is always respectful, and is quick with a witty and appropriate joke. He has picked up playing tuba very quickly and contributes great idea to make the band better,” Mr. Hewitt said.
“Trenton has a great attitude. When confronted with challenges, he faces the head-on and doesn’t quit. Trenton didn’t start playing tuba with the marching band until his junior year, but he stuck with it and accomplished more than some other students who have been playing since fourth grade, just because he worked on small improvements every day and he showed up to every rehearsal (mentally and physically) that he possible could,” Mr. Hewitt added.
He joined the choir in his senior year, according to Trenton.
“Trenton is energetic and is fearless. He will try new ideas or techniques even if he s uncomfortable at first,” Choir Teacher Eric Bergmueller said. “Those traits of being fearless and always wanting to imporve contribute to his success.”
“He genuinely wants to be good at singing. I think that ‘wanting it’ part goas really far with musicians,” Mr Bergmueller added.
Trenton said that his biggest supporters have been his mom, dad, brother, girlfriend and Mr. Aguire. “He believes that I could really strive well in a theater environment,” Trenton said.
Trenton said his biggest challenge is believing in himself. “I weigh myself down. I feel that a lot of people are better than I am, and that they would be better in my position. I am my number one hater,” he explained.
His other hobbies include playing video games and birdwatching. “’I’m starting to be interested in birdwatching. I really like birds,” Trenton said. Trenton said he wants to buy equipment to attract a few new birds species such as blue jays, cardinals and golden finches.
He is also on the bowling team, throws shotput and discus for track and field. He is a assistant for Science Teacher Mr. Tanner Walter.
After he graduates, he said wants to go into an acting career on Broadway or Hollywood or become a fourth grade teacher.
