Many students have jobs at restaurants, shops or grocery stores, but some students have side jobs, such as doing nails or styling hair.
Senior Brookelynn Vasquez does nails in her free time. She said she learned from watching professionals do her nails at the salon. She then decided to buy the supplies and teach herself at home.
She said she does either her own or someone else’s nails every three days. She does not charge, but said she does accept tips.
According to Brookelynn, she’s done over 30 sets of nails.
“I do Gel X nails. I can do French tips, isolated chrome, stars, stripes, and 3D animals and fruit,” she said.
Brookelynn plans to pursue nursing for her career. “I would love to help people for a living,” she added.
Freshman Olivia Pfeil is also one of those students. She does her friends’ hair for fun, she said. “I can do braiding, I do a lot of soccer hairstyles which are tight, tiny braids,” she added.
According to Olivia, she has been doing hair for about two and a half years. She added that she learned the technique in Mr. Nathan Richie’s seventh grade Geography class on freshmen Brooke and Courtney Bertin’s hair.
According to Olivia, she has a folder on her Snapchat public profile to advertise her styles. She said she does not charge because “it’s something I love doing and I’ve never been interested in making money off it.”
She also plans to pursue nursing and added that “I have thought about doing cosmetology, but only as a plan B if nursing fails.”
