Brooklyn hopes to end high school with a home run

Senior Brooklyn Wade said she has enjoyed playing tennis, basketball and softball throughout high school.

For tennis, Brooklyn played the first singles. She plays shortstop and centerfield for softball, she added.

Brooklyn was a three-time Tri-Athlete award recipient, but she said she has chosen not to continue playing basketball this year. She added her favorite sport to play is softball.

Brooklyn said she has served as a team captain for the softball and tennis teams for two seasons. She received the softball coach’s award for Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, and the softball coach’s award for Most Valuable Player in 2022, she added. Brooklyn said she also received the Rookie of the Year award from her tennis coach in 2019.

Softball Coach Mr. Greg Edinger said Brooklyn is a leader on the softball team. “Her teammates look up to her and feed off of the energy that she displays while playing,” he added.

Coach Edinger said Brooklyn is a team player that lifts up her teammates in the dugout and on the field.

Coach Edinger said a favorite memory while coaching Brooklyn was watching her achieve while playing a position she didn’t necessarily like. He said she was asked to play shortstop to help the team stop balls and make plays. Her success at the position helped her team win games, he added.

“She always has some quick wit and creates a fun atmosphere to go along with her solid play,” he added.

Brooklyn said her favorite part about playing sports is meeting new people. She added she has met some of her best friends through sports.

Brooklyn said she advises younger athletes to always try their hardest, no matter the circumstances.

Brooklyn said she plans to attend Bloomsburg University to major in nursing. She has not yet decided if she will continue her softball career in college, she added.
