For about eight years, the Milton High School Skills Club USA has been holding a Halloween trick or treat event for the community. For the past three years, this has been known as Treats on the Track and has been held at the new Milton stadium.
On Oct. 29, Treats on the Track was the biggest event Milton High School has held, according to Co-Op Education Coordinator and Skills Advisor Ms. Amanda Smith. The event opened at 5:30 p.m, but according to Ms. Smith, people were lined up by 4:45 p.m.
At its peak, Treats on the Track held about 2000 people, Ms. Smith said. People were lined all the way up to Turkey Hill, with the last group walking through at 7:45 p.m, she added.
According to Ms. Jamie Emery-Siebert, who attended with her grandchildren, “I was there from 5 until 8. It was very crowded.”
Ms. Smith explained that it was even more well attended than last year. “Last year we had about 1500 to 1600 people,” she said.
According to Ms. Smith, Treats on the Track is intended to give back to the children in the community. With lots of help from students and business partnerships; the cost was low, she said. “Each table had students donating bags of candy to give out,”
According to Ms. Smith, there were 60 tables from various school clubs and businesses, and seven vendors and food trucks in the parking lot.
Even the vendors donated to the cause, she added. Ms. Emery-Siebert added that her grandchildren’s bags were very full, including candy, along with a few small toys, gadgets, an apple and cookies.
The clubs varied from school clubs like Spanish Honor Society and Criminal Justice to businesses like Weis Markets and Fizzy’s Arcade, she said.
Ms. Smith plans to continue Treats on the Track for years to come, but she said she hopes to make some changes.
“We hope that there would be a better way to get people through faster and maybe charging $1 per person to fundraise for Skills USA,” she added.
Ms. Emery-Siebert said that her favorite part of the event was the interaction with students and community outreach. “It was neat to see all the decorated tents. The boys’ soccer team had a cool maze for the children to make their way through,” she added.
